Calathea

Availability: Available

Impressive, with large glossy leaves, it gives a different air to the living room of the house or our office.

We are talking about Calathea, the popular indoor plant that captivates with the size of its leaves, oblong or round, in various color combinations and beautiful striped patterns.

In addition to its great decorative value, the calathea is one of the plants that have the ability to clean the air in the space they are in.

1. What conditions does Calathea need to grow?

Calathea thrives in indoor areas that are not exposed to direct sunlight because it will cause burns to the foliage. We choose bright spots near a window protected by a thin curtain.

Calathea needs an environment with high humidity, protected from air currents. If we see roots coming out of the soil, it means that our plant needs immediate transplanting. If we want to create new plants, we must know that Calathea multiplies by dividing its rhizomes.

2. What are the watering needs of Calathea?

Calathea needs frequent watering to be able to grow well. We water once a week in spring and autumn and every 3-4 days in the hot summer months.

Of course, we should be careful as excessive watering can cause wilting of the calathea leaves. It is necessary, in hot weather, to spray the foliage with distilled water to increase the humidity of the space and avoid the typical browning of the edges of the leaves due to dryness.
